Liposuction Tumescent

As science and technology have progressed, several innovative fat reduction techniques have been developed, one of which is Liposuction Tumescent.  The definition of tumescent is ‘swollen and firm’.  The goal of Liposuction Tumescent is to create a swollen, firm environment among the excess fat that is targeted in order to remove the cells for a tighter, more controlled body contour.  This environment is created by the injection of a large volume of diluted lidocaine (a local anesthetic) and epinephrine (a capillary constrictor) into the targeted subcutaneous fat cells which causes the tissue to become swollen and firm.

To put it in plain terms, Tumescent Liposuction is very similar to the traditional liposuction technique, except for a few small differences; differences that actually make a large impact on the overall success of the treatment.  During Liposuction Tumescent, the patient is only given a local anesthetic; this minimizes the risks involved with putting patients under general anesthesia.  Also, while cannula’s, which are small stainless steel tubes that are inserted into the treatment area to remove fat, are utilized with traditional liposuction, tumescent liposuction uses microcannulas.  Microcannulas are smaller in diameter yet are still very efficient for removing unwanted fat.  Microcannulas require smaller incisions, often so small that they do not require sutures after the treatment.

Liposuction Tumescent performed totally under local anesthesia has proven to be extremely safe despite the use of unprecedented large doses of lidocaine and epinephrine; the reason for the remarkable safety of this treatment is the extreme dilution of the tumescent local anesthetic solution. Large volumes of dilute epinephrine injected into the excess subcutaneous fat cells produces intense constriction of capillaries in the targeted fat, which in turn greatly delays the rate of absorption of lidocaine and epinephrine; making it safe for patients.

The treatment will begin with the local anesthetic.  Once the anesthetic has taken effect, small incisions will be made in the treatment area.  A microcannula will then be inserted into the incisions and vacuum suction will be used to remove excess fat.  After the treatment patients will experience less pain, less downtime and faster results than with traditional liposuction.  Liposuction Tumescent is a revolutionary new treatment for the removal of unwanted fat.
